ODP

The Olympic Development Program will serve as a forum to identify and develop athletes to represent USA Water Polo throughout domestic and international competition. The foundation of the program is a systematic approach to athlete development through a training program that focuses on both the technical and tactical components of water polo while placing a premium on overall physical fitness. This program will also provide a forum where coaches and referees are provided with professional development and insight into the vision of our Men and Women’s Senior National Team coaches.

Midwest Zone

Olympic Development Program

The Midwest Zone encompasses two of the 13 ODP zones, the Midwest and Great Lakes, that USA Water Polo has designated, and is comprised of athletes from Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota and Wisconsin.

Each of the 13 zones has a Zone Head Coach for each gender. There are 2 training camps in each zone. Three age-defined teams of boys and girls will be selected from those who attend the training camps held in the fall. Each of the camps will have a Zone Age Group Coach, a National Team Coach, and a National Goalie coach.

In the fall and winter, selected zone athletes will represent the MWZ by travelling to Regional Championships for further evaluation. Finally, in the spring, selected team members will travel to California to take part in the ODP National Championships, pitting them against squads from all the other zones.
